THE SPICE GIRLS PRESENT:

PHILADELPHIA: UNDER THE SKYSCRAPERS

completed in association with CM213: Writing & Communications Professor: Michael D. Dwyer, Ph. D.

(Glenside, PA) October 21st, 2014 – The spice girls are pleased to present Philadelphia: Under the Skyscrapers, a thrilling documentary about Philadelphia’s urban arts, as seen by those producing and playing within it. It follows as they learn about the beauty and inspirations that come from the streets of Philadelphia.

Although the documentary is not yet finished the first showing has been scheduled on February 29, 2015 at Arcadia University in the Great Room at 5:00 pm as well as 6:00 pm.

The spice girls are a group of five, second year students studying at Arcadia University in Glenside Pennsylvania. The group consists of Patrycja Grzywna, Jessica Stimley, Jedidah Flores, Nakie Uzeiri, and Samantha Winston. They come from a multitude of backgrounds and are all interested in the aspects of urban arts such as dance, hip-hop and graffiti. Their goal: “to educate people about the beauty that many write off as disrespect and crudeness,” says group member Samantha Winston.

People have started to come over to the realization that the urban arts are not bad, but the group believes that this documentary will be the final push that is needed for complete acceptance of this unique creativity. They also believe that this film will help to show the freedoms that come with being able to live and produce art in the streets of Philadelphia.

They hope that once the Arcadia audience has seen the documentary, it will go on to be seen at film festivals in Philadelphia. They plan on only making it locally available through film festivals and other universities. Their main focuses in the way of festivals include the Philadelphia Film Society festival, First Glance film festival and the PhillaFilm festival. It is their hope that by showing what they have found out about urban arts in Philly through their documentary, they might teach people not to be so disgusted and put off by these different ways of expression.
